Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have water safety credentials?

We are CPR and First Aid certified, water safety ambassadors from the American Red Cross, and have a combined 15+ years experience of teaching in the pool.

What is the balance of speech Therapy and water safety intruction?

The balance between speech therapy and water safety instruction lies within our target population. We know and have researched the benefits of water for our kids, but we also understand how vital swim safety awareness is to young, neurodiverse children. Once we started water safety we found so much of our activities pertain to the child’s speech and language skills. So, we put both together to maximize their full potential as communicators.

How long are the sessions?

Our sessions are typically 60 minutes including a warm-up activity, in-pool instruction, and a debrief conversation with the parent/caregivers.

Where do sessions take place?

We have three different locations in Chicago and surrounding areas. Locations include Crestwood, Countryside, and Lakeview.

What is the difference BETWEEN swimming lessons and water safety instruction?

Swimming lessons are designed to target learning technical swim strokes, coordination, swim movements, etc. Water safety instruction is meant to teach safety skills in, on, around, and near water and provide instruction on fundamental swimming skills.

Do you offer group lessons?

As of right now, we offer a social group opportunity for transition aged adults at our Crestwood and Countryside locations once a month!

Do you take insurance?

Swim Learn Play does not currently take insurance. We can provide a superbill that acts as a receipt of your services for you to submit to your insurance. These bills compile information about your session including CPT (procedure codes) and ICD-10 (diagnosis codes) that you submit for possible reimbursement for out-of-network services. It is important to note that not billing insurance at this time allows us to provide the best individualized, strengths-based, child-led approach for aquatic speech therapy. This allows us and our Speech-Language Pathologists full independence and freedom to provide the best quality services that at suited best for you and your child.

What should I bring for my child’s therapy session?

Please bring your child’s swim suit, towel, and any augmented or alternative communication (AAC) device they may use.
